Flow Tests and Inspections

The only way you can be sure you have enough water coming out of your fire hydrants and water systems is to conduct individual flow tests. Our tests include a report of the static pressure, residual pressure, pitot pressure, and GPM for each hydrant.

If there are big differences between each hydrant flow, you may have a problem with your water system and/or fire hydrant.   • What services do you offer?

    In the Las Vegas Valley, D and R Hydrant is a fire protection service firm that repairs and replaces fire hydrants.     Depending on the size of your water line, we test hydrant flows using the hose monster, which comes in 2-1/2" and 4" sizes. The hose monster has the benefit of causing no water damage during flow testing and utilizing very little water. Making your life easier while preserving your financial resources.

  • Why are private fire hydrants required to be tested annually?

    In 1983, the City of Henderson was the first city to pass an ordinance requiring private fire hydrants to be tested ANNUALLY by a licensed and certified fire protection services company. Today, Clark County, City of Las Vegas, and the City of North Las Vegas have adopted similar ordinances.

  • What can happen if a private system doesn't have an annual test?

    The results of the ANNUAL TEST are to be kept onsite and maintained by the property manager, or n HOA representative and must be presented upon request by the Fire Department or Fire inspector.


    A correction notice or a citation could be issued for non-compliance by the Fire Department or Fire Inspector.

  • What are some reasons for flow testing?

    Fire Safety - In time of need, if the fire hydrant doesn't work properly, it could result in large additional damages to properties from a fire.


    The local Fire Departments don't maintain private fire hydrants, or water systems. Therefore, it's your responsibility to make sure the fire hydrants and water system work and meet the minimum standards set forth by the local fire codes.


    Private water systems are closed systems, meaning the water only circulates within its own system. Most private water systems don't flow enough water within a year to keep the water clear of impurities and crustation build-up. Remember, this is the water you drink and use for domestic services.


    It is in your best interest to set up a good maintenance program for your fire hydrants because the price to replace just one fire hydrant could run into the thousands of dollars.
